  1. COMPLAINT WITH REPLY REQUESTED

I purchased Office for Mac Home and Student 2011, which I want to UPGRADE to Office for Mac Home and Business 2011 as per instructions on http://www.microsoft.com/mac/faq/product-upgrade . First, the instructions are not correct. For example “Purchase Options” does not show up but “Upgrade Office” instead. Fair enough. When I click “Upgrade Office”. I am prompted to “enter” my “product key” rather than to “Purchase an upgrade product key online” as per your website. Finally my product key is not recognized.

I called your support center and was told that there is no upgrade from Home & Student to Home & Business and that I have to purchase the entire Home & Business package. THIS IS IN TOTAL CONTRADICTION WITH THE STATEMENT ON THE ABOVE-MENTIONED PAGE OF YOUR WEBSITE , which answers “yes” to the question: “If I own Office for Mac Home and Student 2011 and I want Office for Mac Home and Business 2011, can I upgrade to Office for Mac Home and Business 2011?”

No need to add that I got nowhere with you support technician who was not familiar with http://www.microsoft.com/mac/faq/product-upgrade. When I asked her where I could lodge a complaint, she only gave me the phone number of International Public Relations.

I do not think that I can expect adequate support from support center. The gap between their information and the information on your website statement is simply to great. I am just requesting an answer to a simple question: Is it possible, yes or no, to upgrade from Home & Student to Home & Business (rather than just purchasing the entire Home & Business package), and, if not, where can I lodge a formal complaint by regular mail or e-mail. If no upgrade is available, the information on http://www.microsoft.com/mac/faq/product-upgrade amounts to false advertising since it leads the first time buyer to believe that an upgrade is available when it is not.

To the extents that it matters, I was located in the US when I attempted to upgrade earlier today October 31, 2013, and I purchased Office for Mac Home & Student 2011 online in the US.

    Sincerely,

    Vincent Marie

    • Dear Vincent,
Thanks for your comment. The answer to your question is that there is no upgrade to Home and Business Mac since this product is exactly like Home and Student, with the inclusion of Outlook being the only difference. so Home and Business is like Home/student except it has outlook application… the price for Home and Student is 139.99 while Home and Business is 219.99….. however the best deal for your Mac is Office 365 which includes free upgrades for life, cloud storage, your favorite programs like Word, PowerPoint, OneNote, Excel, Outlook, and Publisher and Access, and is valid for installation up to 5 Macs… the price for Office 365 is 99.99 per year or 9.99 a month.
