Apple has licensed a number of design patents to Microsoft for an undisclosed exchange. In the wake of Apple’s legal fights with Samsung and HTC, Microsoft is playing it safe and licensing the patents from its arch-rival.
This is in stark contrast with the troubling saga between smartphone maker Samsung and Apple. The iPad maker sued Samsung after having begged Samsung to reconsider and license the patents in question. Instead, Samsung stubbornly refused and so began the epic battle. The showdown was scheduled to take place last month in a California federal court.
